"Going bush"

If you don't hear from me for the next four or five days, don't worry. In a moment of madness a few weeks ago, I agreed to accompany Eldest's Science class (along with his teacher and a busdriver) on an 'Earth Science' Camp. For three days over the weekend we're going to be trekking around the bush looking at geological formations (including a meteor crater), archaeological sites, sites of astronomical interest (as in star-gazing) and anything else interesting that might crop up along the way. We should cover about 1500km in that time, so it's going to be quite a trip.

Three days of sitting in a bus with twenty-three fifteen-year-olds. Doesn't that just give you a thrill down the spine? I have to admit my first reaction on being asked was 'Me? No way!' But then I remembered a similar trip I went on when I was in University - a combined Geology/Archaeology Honours students' field trip. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. And I've known a lot of these teenagers since they were five years old and I have to say, they're a really great bunch of kids. So I'm actually really looking forward to it. Just think how much better I'll be able to reach a YA audience after this! Literally doing research in the field.

If you don't hear from me after Monday - do worry! And maybe come looking for us? It's a big white bus, you can't miss it.

Have a great time! I want to see a list of 'most talked about teen topics' and 'teen slang' when you get back!

OMG this sounds FABULOUS! My problem is that I might forget that I was one of the parents and would act more like one of the kids. A little fact about me: I wanted to be Indiana Jones when I was a kid, and still kind of do! I would be so giddy to go on this kind of trip! Have fun and I want details!
