A Few of My Favourite Things: Part 2

My Favourite Musical Instrument

I play the guitar. So is that my favourite musical instrument? Actually, no, though I do love it when it’s played well. When I was a child though, there was one instrument I pestered my mother for even more than the guitar. She said if I was a really good girl, she was sure I would get one some day. What she didn’t add was that I’d also have wings – because what I wanted was a harp.

Angels don’t play the sort of harp I wanted though, at least I don’t think so. It’s the sound of the Celtic Harp I love. I know I was born in England, but I’m sure there must be a good dose of Celtic blood in me, because I love everything Celtic – myths, archaeology, designs and Celtic music of any description, but especially the harp. It has a magical sound, perfect to listen to when I’m writing fantasy stories. It takes me away to fairy dells and green rolling hills, to babbling brooks and bluebells. I’m sure it can’t be as easy to produce that beautiful sound as people make it look.

I never did get a harp, but I’m still tempted. Especially when I listen to pieces like this -

What about you? What's your favourite instrument and why?

I don't play the drums, but drums are my favorite instrument. They sound like the heartbeats of a song.

I'm not sure I have a favorite instrument. I go through stages. Although I will always stop to listen to a bluesy piano.
