Inspiration

I’d like to share a photo my husband took on a recent trip to Kununurra with Dynamo-

Kununurra is in the far north of Western Australia. For those of you who may have seen the film ‘Australia’, starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, you would recognise the scenery if you went there, because that's where most of it was filmed. P and Dynamo went there to visit Dynamo’s friend from school, who now lives there. And in July, I’ll be taking Dynamo back, so that I can see the place before the friend’s family return to this boring old town.

Back to the photo.

I’m going to print this photo off and stick it on the wall above my computer. Why? Because it inspires me to hope. I got another rejection on my story yesterday, but I looked at this flower clinging to a crevice in the rock and felt better. It really looks as though it shouldn’t be there, doesn’t it? I mean, of all the places to try to grow, why choose a tiny crack in a rock that’s probably sheltered by other rocks and provides very little in the way of nutrients and water? Yet it doesn’t just survive there; it thrives and flowers. If things begin to get bleak, it probably just sends out another root to find what it needs.

If a flower can do that, so can I. So I hit another dry piece of rock yesterday...I’ll seek elsewhere. Somewhere there’s a crack in the rock that I can make my way through. It’s just a matter of trying.

That's a lovely picture!
And when you find that crack I'm sure you'll sprout roots strong enough to split the rock and drive down deep into the fertile soil.

That's a beautiful photo, and some inspiring thoughts too. Keep clinging on Kate!

That's a lovely post, Katie - the photo and words complement each other wonderfully.
Persevere, and like this flower and Bruce's spider, you'll get there in the end - the results will be well worth it.

It is a great photo and I love how you look at the details. Is your header new? It's really nice!

Thanks, everyone.

Christina, yes it is a new header, although the picture is one I did ages ago.

You're right. We can grow such beauty during a rough patch.
